Small Class Size

You will get to know your professors

The small class difference can be found across campus:

  • Student population: approximately 2,300
  • 60%+ of classes have 30 students or less
  • Average first-year class size: 60 (one of the smallest in the country)
  • Average upper-year class size: 14 (sometimes as small as three)
  • One-on-one independent studies

This means you have the space to collaborate, the confidence to ask questions, and the freedom to share your ideas.

You will be able to connect with your professors both inside and outside the classroom during office hours, walking across campus, or over coffee downtown. These meaningful interactions will guide you throughout your degree and help you figure out your future.

I wanted to go to a university that was a unique to me. A university where when I go there, I’m not just a person in a chair. I wanted to know my professors. If I see them walking around campus stop them and ask them a question and that’s what we get at Mount A.

Sometimes we have classes of about 6 people which is really small, but also you get to know your colleagues really well and you get to work with them even outside of class and really grow as a family and as a classroom which is really nice. It makes us not afraid to ask for help when we need it.

They are taking the time to reach out to you, helping you when you need extra assignments. You have these internships where you can work with your professors. So, that’s something that you actually have an opportunity to do when you come to a small university and that’s why I love Mount A.

There is nothing like being in a class with a handful of students. I relish the opportunity to work with my classes where there are just 5, 10, 15 individuals. The opportunity to create relationships, not only with your professors, but also with your peers. To be seen, to be part, to be a member of a community, a learning community.

It’s common to have small class sizes anywhere from 10 to 20 students and you’re able to take on projects at a much different scope than you can in larger class size. And this really helps you to understand what the students’ interests are and where their abilities may be.

When you’re at the small university, they pick out your strong points. So when you’re in a small university, you have professors they see you. They see what you excel at and they help you with that and they help you blossom into the student that you want to be.
